Reflection….

I lean over the wood floors on hands and knees, scrubbing hard to make sure everything is clean. These old wood floors creak beneath.  They are in good condition, and I just thought they needed a good scrubbing. I remember, “polish doesn’t adhere to the dirt” – it’s hard to reflect light in rubble.

Once I knew they were completely clean – corners and crevices and deep in the hidden spaces, I rubbed the polish onto the boards.  The clean boards were brought to life as the polish glazed over their grain.  I realized that all these years, even thought the floor was clean, it never reflected the light.  When you looked at the floor, you could see the boards, just the boards, and they looked nice.  But now, they reflected the light, and it made everything else seem to come alive.

Sometimes our lives are like that too.  We keep things fairly clean and orderly and think this is enough – to remove the clutter and dirt.    And people see our clean lives, and think we have it all together, and maybe we are even glad that it appears that way.  But all they see is us.  It isn’t until we apply the polish, soak in the light of His word, and rub it into our inner parts, that we truly reflect the light.  And when people look at us they only see the reflection of the light.

I don’t want to be a clean dull board, satisfied with just enough – I want to be polished bright – to show His glory, His light. Oh Lord, teach me what it means to reflect your grace, your love, your sacrifice.

2 Corinthians 3:18: “And we, who with unveiled faces all reflectthe Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”

Job 33: 26-28 :  “He prays to God and finds favor with him, he sees God’s face and shouts for joy; he is restored by God to his righteous state. Then he comes to men and says, ‘I sinned, and perverted what was right, but I did not get what I deserved. He redeemed my soul from going down to the pit, and I will live to enjoy the light.’ ”

Psalm 43:3: “Send forth your light and your truth, let them guide me”
