When You Need a Schedule: Day 3 – Establishing a Beginning and End

Day Three:   Establishing a Beginning and End In this constantly bustling society, one area that often gets overlooked is the amount of sleep everyone is getting.  Some might be getting too much, but if you're a mom of young children, chances are that you aren't getting enough sleep.  I can be totally guilty of that - robbing time from sleep to get things done.  But if you don't have rest, it makes you much more irritable and less … [Read more...]

When You Need a Schedule: Day 2 – Narrowing Your Path

Re-posting this series from the archives.....   When I was a kid, we ran from one activity to another.  We were involved in EVERYTHING.  While I appreciated being able to do nearly every activity I ever desired, I reflect on childhood as a very frazzled time - always running from one activity to the next.  Today, I struggle with performance-based approval which I believe stemmed from this frequent activity.  How much can I get done and how … [Read more...]

When You Need a Schedule – Day 1

Since it is planning time for everyone, I thought I would re-post this series from the archives.....   Creating a Family schedule that Works for You! I know - you're as ecstatic as I am.  You could barely sleep last night thinking about scheduling....am I right?  huh?....oh yeah, baby!!   No?......  You're not that excited? Oh.  Okay.  In that case, it is a good thing we are going to take this one step … [Read more...]

Curriculum Choices 2013-2014

In light of the fact that I love hearing what other people are doing in their homeschools, I wanted to post our homeschool plans for this year (2013-2014). Memory Work - First and foremost, we will be focusing on our Memory Work.  You can read all about what we memorize and what resources we use in THIS POST.  Of course we will also be using the My Memory Work Lapbooks as a hands-on project based way to review our CC memory work.   Reading - Our … [Read more...]

Our Memory Work

We love Memory Work around here - it just seems to be so fruitful in the long run! Since my kiddos memorize well to music, we are able to get a lot of info into our little noggins in one year!  So there are a number of things we will be memorizing this year, and since I love hearing about what you all are doing, I figured I would post what we are doing.  Today I will focus on Memory Work, and later this week I will fill you in on the rest of our studies.   Memory Work … [Read more...]

New Testament Greek – Memory Work

I love everything we learn in our Classical Conversations curriculum. It has opened my eyes to just how much we can memorize as a family through music and motion! While I see the value in learning Latin, I personally feel more challenged and earnest to learn New Testament Greek. Koine Greek is the language of the New Testament, and hearing the words of Jesus in the language he spoke is so incredibly motivating to me!  What greater gift than to enable your children (and yourself) to … [Read more...]

Summer School

Since we had a difficult time getting the ball rolling again last fall once we had summer break, I decided to do summer school this year.  It basically allows us consistency in our morning routine and around one hour of school work (if the kiddos stay focused).  I made a deal with myself that whatever I scheduled them HAD to be able to be completed within one hour.  So, here's what we are doing: Robby Roo - 6 yrs, Entering 1st grade this … [Read more...]

Digging Deeper into CC at Home

Living a half-an-hour away from a good library, I always want to dig deeper into our Classical Conversations (CC) topics from home with great living books, but it just never ends up being realistic (Or I end up with such big fees I could have purchased the books used online and kept them forever).  So I tend to search for more information from home. There is a ton of information right within the Foundations Guide.  If you have only flipped to the memory work sections, you are … [Read more...]

Creating a Family Schedule that Works for You: Day 7 – The Schedule Comes together!

Day 7 The Schedule Comes Together! Last time we left off, you were Adding it Up - listing the activities for each member of the schedule and making sure they don't exceed 24.  You were also thinking about how to Redefine your Day.  How did you do?  Today is the fun part - the day where you schedule starts to take shape! This schedule is meant to be your "standard schedule".  That means, on any average day, this is what your schedule might look like.  Some of you might need 2 schedules - … [Read more...]

Creating a Family Schedule that Works for You: Day 6 – Redefining your Day

Day 6 Redefining Your Day   Last time we left off, you were Adding it Up - listing the activities for each member of the schedule and making sure they don't exceed 24.  How did you do?  Today we are going to take a bigger look at those time schedules you put together and see if we can tweak them a bit to help them accomplish your overall vision a little bit better.  (Using the Free Family Scheduling Template might make the job easier, but it can all be done on a piece of … [Read more...]
