I jumped into the "Challenge Years" head-on with my oldest as the Challenge A Tutor. I have an amazing class of eleven students - all of whom are fairly extrovert. We have been growing in our discussion quality, and learning how to respect each other by not "stepping on" one another's words. We have been stretched and challenge in so many ways already, and I am excited for what is yet to come this year. My oldest (a girl) is fairly studious and determined. The adaptation to Challenge A has … [Read more...]
Getting Ready for Essentials – School Year Prep
Last year, my oldest was in her third year of Essentials, and my second child was in his first year. While my daughter loved language, my son would have rather been building forts. Since I had three kids younger than them - one of them a VERY active toddler, I wanted to have my older kids' Essentials work all laid out for them before school began, so it would require a lot less guidance from me. So I am sharing the method we used last year, which is the same one we will use this year. It … [Read more...]
Getting Ready for CC Foundations – School Year Prep
I have learned over the years that one of the best indictors of a successful and more peaceful school year begins with quality summer planning and preparing. There are a few things I do over the summer that makes the Foundations side of our school day run well, and I share them with you in case they might help you have more sanity than chaos this school year. The Classical Conversations Foundations program is centered around Memory Work - memorizing a LOT of things - lists, sentences, … [Read more...]
Our Family’s Memory Work
MEMORY WORK Our Family will soon be entering our seventh year using the Classical Conversations Program. In the lower grades, this includes memory work covering English Grammar, Geography, Latin, Math, Science, History, and a timeline of world events from the dawn of time to the present. In addition to our CC Memory work, our family likes to add some extra memory work. We can do this easily using music - I don't push the kids to memorize it, I just play it around the house and in the car, … [Read more...]
Free CC Cycle 3 Review Games!
My family loves to use games to squeeze in memory work review. Especially if I have a Memory Master in the house (see this post)! I am excited to share with you two Review Game Downloads for use with Cycle 3! The first is a States and Capitals Memory Match Game - just download, print on two different colors, and cut out the cards. Then lay them face down on a table. Taking turns, each player flips one card of each color over, trying to match the state with the Capital. It … [Read more...]
God created us to memorize by music….
I remember so clearly the day I was running on the treadmill, listening to my audio Bible and suddenly had to stop the treadmill immediately. I was so surprised by what I heard! We had been using the Classical Conversations program for a few years, and I had discovered that my children memorized easily when the material was set to music. And here it was, right in the Bible - God knows we memorize permanently by music! Here is what I heard: Deuteronomy 31:16-22 And the Lord said … [Read more...]
The Beast
There is a monster waiting to devour us. This stealthy Beast masquerades as a gentle giant, begging you to cuddle up with him. He is green with envy, yellow with fear, and red with comparison. Shiny jewels cover his torso, easily hiding an interior of rotting flesh and pending destruction. There are many captive to his whims. Our culture has befriended this Beast. It has dressed him up to make him look acceptable. It says, "If you want a good life, focus on the Beast. … [Read more...]
My Story – How Wisdom and Righteousness Began – Part 2
This post is a continuation of the story of how Wisdom and Righteousness began. If you missed the first part, you can find it HERE. When we left off last time, I mentioned how the random product buttons and descriptions on my original blogging site started to make it difficult for people to find what they were looking for. After all, a standard blog isn't really set up to sell products. I was spending a lot of time answering emails to try to help people find what they were looking for. As … [Read more...]
My Story – How Wisdom And Righteousness Began….Part 1
A number of people have asked me how I ended up with this website, and so I thought it was the time to share the story with you.... In September of 2008, I started blogging back before anyone even really knew what blogging was. It started as just a place to write what I felt God was teaching me as I studied his Word, and I hoped that someone would read it and actually hear the gospel - not just hear the story, but that the gospel would become real to them. I just loved writing, and my … [Read more...]
Cycle 3 Seven-Day Sale!
Did the Essentials moms out there notice the alliteration in the title of this post? My Essentials class just loved adding alliteration to everything! Well, here we are back again at Cycle 3 with our Classical Conversations curriculum! It is probably my favorite cycle, since there are so many ways to offer hands-on learning with field trips related to U.S History and Geography. This will be our third time through, so I want to dive even deeper for my older kids, and make sure the middle … [Read more...]
